Introduction

When something can be read without effort, great effort has gone into its writing.
—Enrique Jardiel Poncela

Welcome to my editing and proofreading website. If you ever feel unsure about commas, clauses, or capital letters, want your syntax to be more concise and elegant, or just need to make sure no mistakes have crept into your text, I can help. I work on books, reports, ad copy, essays, articles, theses, academic papers, newsletters, CVs, website text, and more.

It takes time and specialist skills to create effective, error-free prose. It’s difficult to spot one’s own mistakes and to structure sentences and paragraphs optimally. Readers notice errors and logical gaps, and they may not grasp the sense that the writers intends. This will frustrate them and damage the writer’s aims and credibility.

The converse is also true: when writing is precisely edited and carefully proofread, it flows smoothly from the page or screen, right into the reader’s mind. Editing not only strengthens a writer’s points, making them clear, correct, and consistent, it also shows respect for readers’ time and attention.

As part of my copy-editing and proofreading services, I can:

•  remove typos
•  fix misspellings
•  improve syntax
•  assess word choice
•  ensure proper punctuation
•  correct grammatical mistakes
•  remove ambiguity and vagueness
•  ensure consistent style and formatting.

As a professional writer, experienced editor and proofreader, and qualified scientist and teacher, I understand the importance of lucid prose, the properties that underline it and the problems that undermine it. Clear communication is central to my work, and I take pleasure in bringing this quality to people’s writing.

To see what this could mean for your writing, you can read testimonials from my clients. For more about what’s involved, see the FAQ. If you have any questions not answered here, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Thanks for visiting.
